2012 Olympic Results

My main prediction that the Russian team would dominate in freestyle wrestling was wrong.

My main prediction that the Russian team would dominate in freestyle wrestling was wrong. They got only 1 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals. The team really didn't show their potential. The team was not prepared physically and mentally for this Olympics. The change of the head Russian coach just months before the Olympics was obviously not the right move by their administration. However, I was right about the US team. The team had a great tournament - 2 gold medals and 1 bronze. The Americans are on the right track to again become a world powerhouse in freestyle.

2012 Olympic Games Predictions

Russia will dominate men's freestyle tournament

I believe the freestyle men's tournament of the 2012 Olympic Games will be dominated again by the Russian team. The team is highly experienced in addition to being outstanding technically and well balanced physically. They are very financially motivated. Also, the Russian wrestling administration did their homework by creating a good relationship among the referees, tournament and FILA officials. I expect 3-4 gold medals from their team.

Russian Wrestling System vs U.S.

2010 was again a successful year for Russian wrestlers...

2010 was again a successful year for Russian wrestlers. They dominated in all big international competitions. Many people in the international wrestling community (particularly in the U.S.) are trying to figure out the success of the Russian Wrestling System. My opinion of why Russia dominates is that the system is built on deep wrestling traditions with tremendous financial and political support.
